Ideas for holidays, weekends and trips in Delft and its surroundings
Delft is nestled between two major Dutch cities, The Hague and Rotterdam, so the Campanile Delft hotel is the ideal place to stay if you want to explore these two stunning places as well as discovering a whole new city. Delft is a traditional-looking Dutch city, having the typical canals and bridges running throughout, making the city centre a very attractive place. It is known as the Princes' City, owing to the Dutch royal family living there. In the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) you can find the burial vault of the Dutch royals, which is worth a visit for both its history and its beauty. The painter Vermeer was born in Delft, and the city is rightly proud of him, so much of his work is on display. One place to visit is the Vermeer Centrum, which is a museum detailing his life and work, a must-see for all culture and art-lovers. One of his most famous works, Girl with a Pearl Earring, is on display in the Mauritshuis gallery in The Hague, which is only an 8- minute train ride away, so if you go for a day out there, make sure to see it. The Madurodam theme park, 10km away in The Hague, is a park which contains model replicas of Dutch castles, buildings and other architectural gems found throughout Holland, so if you're only in the country for a few days, make sure to visit and discover Holland in its model form!
